COSMETIC INJECTABLES
CONSULTATION
During a cosmetic injectables consultation at SEQ Medical Aesthetics, you can expect to have a conversation with your physician about your goals and concerns regarding your treatment goals. Our physician may ask you about your medical history, allergies, and any medications you are currently taking to ensure that you are a suitable candidate for your desired cosmetic injectables treatment. In line with AHPRA guidelines, you will be asked to fill out a questionnaire about your appearance and treatment goals. Your physician will examine the areas you are interested in treating and offer recommendations on the best course of action to achieve your desired results. During a consultation, you will be made aware of the potential risks and benefits of each treatment option and answer any questions you may have. Finally, your physician will work with you to develop a personalised treatment plan tailored to your unique needs and goals.
COMBINING TREATMENTS
If you are interested in undergoing more than one of our cosmetic injectables treatments, you may be able to combine these treatments to have them performed at the same time.
Commonly, dermal fillers and anti-wrinkle injections can be combined to achieve a more complete facial rejuvenation. Anti-wrinkle injections are typically used to relax the muscles that cause wrinkles, such as those on the forehead or between the eyebrows. On the other hand, dermal fillers are used to add volume and fill in lines and wrinkles.
Depend on the individual patient’s needs and desired outcomes, the specific combination of cosmetic injectables will be discussed during a consultation with one of our qualified and experienced cosmetic physicians.
ANTI-WRINKLE-INJECTIONS
The development of fine lines and wrinkles on the skin is a normal part of ageing. As we age, our levels of collagen and elastin can decrease, resulting in thinner, drier skin.
As an effective anti-ageing treatment, anti-wrinkle injections is a widely used procedure, designed to relax targeted muscles and reduce the appearance of wrinkles and facial lines. This procedure is commonly used among people of all ages and can have preventative benefits when used before or at the onset of facial lines and wrinkles.
HOW THEY WORK
Anti-wrinkle injections work to diminish the visibility of wrinkles and lines by blocking the chemical signals between nerves and targeted muscles, this essentially relaxes the muscles and is therefore an injectable procedure that has for long been used to treat muscle injuries.
Muscle relaxants consist of proteins that are exclusively developed to relax the muscles they are injected into. The product works to temporarily block nerve activity and to induce muscle paralysis which restricts movement in the targeted area. With less movement, the skin can move freely over the underlying muscle and as a result reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, resulting in a rejuvenated and appearance.
Your physician may use a topical anaesthetic prior to administering the wrinkle relaxers to ensure your comfort throughout the procedure. The product is then injected into the target muscle below the surface of the skin. Most patients describe this as a fast and pain-free experience although some patients may experience a brief stinging sensation during the injection process. Depending on the target area, the treatment usually takes between 15 to 30 minutes. Patients can expect little to no downtime after the procedure.
RESULTS
It is important to note that the outcomes of your anti-wrinkle injections will not be immediately noticeable after treatment. You might experience some bruising following the treatment. Typically, you should anticipate results to take effect within two to three days, with visible results occurring around two weeks. The effects of wrinkle relaxants are temporary, usually lasting for about three to four months, though this duration may vary depending on the individual. Patients with muscular builds may need more frequent treatments or a higher dosage of cosmetic injectables. Regular treatments can help to sustain your results and many patients can find they can extend the intervals between touch-up treatments.

AFTERCARE
Mild redness and swelling around injection sites after treatment is normal and usually subsides within 30 minutes.
Mild tenderness or bruising at or around the injection site is possible and will improve.
A temporary headache is also normal, depending on the treatment area.
AFTERCARE
For 4 hours immediately after treatment:
– Avoid lying down flat. Please remain upright for 4 hours to allow the product to settle into place.
– Avoid applying makeup to the area.
– Please keep infection control in mind, so try to avoid touching the treated area for at least 4 hours after treatment.
For 48 hours
– Avoid intense physical activity (including gym workouts).
– Avoid applying any firm pressure on the treated area (including massage/exfoliating/waxing/wearing tight hats/helmets etc).
– Avoid heated areas such as saunas/spas/steam rooms.
– Avoid alcohol & blood thinning medications.
Please avoid facials or invasive dermal treatments for at least 1 week after treatment.
OTHER IMPORTANT INFORMATION:
Remember anti-wrinkle treatment starts to take effect within 2-5 days, reaching full effect at 14 days post injection. Sometimes, the onset of the medication may differ within the same muscle and cause temporary asymmetry. Should this occur, please wait the full 14 days as we are not able to inject any additional medication until this time.
Even if you are happy with your results after your first treatment, we highly recommend you attend a review appointment so we can assess your dosing and results. At this time, we can make any adjustments if required.
DERMAL FILLERS
Collagen and elastin are two important proteins for maintaining healthy skin and a youthful appearance. As we age, along with external environmental factors we will naturally loose these proteins, resulting in volume loss, tired or sunken appearance and signs of facial ageing. Dermal fillers may help to address these concerns and are designed to add fullness to and hydrate the skin. Dermal fillers can also work to highlight and contour facial features and to smooth out deeper lines.
HOW THEY WORK
RESULTS
Your physician can apply a topical anaesthetic to the treatment areas before administering your cosmetic injectables to ensure your comfort during the treatment. The filler will then be injected beneath the skin using a very fine needle or a cannula. You may experience a minor pinch or a stinging sensation. Typically, the procedure takes approximately 30 to 45 minutes, after which you are free to return to your normal daily routine. The results of your dermal filler treatment are generally noticeable straight away, with continued improvements in the days following the procedure. You might experience some bruising following the treatment. It is important to note that the effects of dermal fillers are temporary since the injected product will naturally become metabolised by the body. The duration of your dermal fillers will therefore vary depending on your metabolic rate, the area being treated, and the specific product used. Typically, you can anticipate your results to last from 6 to 18 months. Patients with muscular builds may require more frequent treatments with higher quantities of filler. Routine treatments can help sustain your results, with some patients finding that they need less frequent top-up cosmetic injections over time.
AFTERCARE
If possible, sleep on two pillows the evening after treatment to elevate the head and reduce swelling. Ice packs can be applied in the first 24 hours after treatment to minimize swelling and bruising. Ice packs should not be applied for more than 10-15 minutes per hour.
For 24 hours avoid:
– Touching your face
– Applying makeup
– Skincare with active ingredients
For 48 hours avoid:
– Intense physical activity (including gym workouts)
– Sleeping on side or front
– Spa’s/Saunas
– Massage/facials
– Touching/rubbing/massaging/exfoliating/applying pressure to treated areas
– Alcohol & blood thinning medications
For 2 weeks avoid:
-Massage of treated area.
Please notify us immediately if you notice any blanching of the skin (areas of white/ yellow/ grey discolouration), any bruise that tracks in an unusual pattern, extreme pain, visual disturbances or any new bruise that develops after a few days.
Pimple or cold sore formation in the treated area-this may require antibiotic or antiviral treatment.
Other important information:
Needle entry points, redness, bruising, swelling and asymmetry around injection sites immediately after treatment is normal due to the very nature of the treatment. Arnica spray/cream can be used to treat bruising and make-up can be applied (Mineral make-up is preferred).
There may also be some tenderness present as the bruising and inflammation sets in. These symptoms will resolve over the next 2-7 days, depending on your individual response to the treatment.
It may take a full 4 weeks for all swelling to settle; until this time we cannot re-treat.
Even if you are happy with your results after your treatment, we highly recommend you attend a review appointment. This way we can assess your results by comparing before and after images, massage the injected area if required and plan for future treatments if required
LIP FILLERS
To enhance the lips, dermal fillers can be used to create a plumper appearance and correct aesthetic concerns such as asymmetry. The procedure typically requires minimal downtime, with long-lasting yet flexible results. If you feel like your lips are lacking volume or appear too thin, lip fillers can be a solution to add structure and fullness to your lips.
HOW THEY WORK
A lip enhancement involves injecting the lips with dermal filler, a cosmetic injectables which is used to restore volume. Dermal filler is formulated to mimic a naturally occurring sugar molecule in the body, which regulates the skin’s water balance by binding water. When used on the lips, dermal fillers can increase their plumpness and correct the shape of your lips.
Before administering the cosmetic injectables, you may opt to have a topical anaesthetic to ensure your comfort. Following this, your cosmetic doctor or nurse will use a very fine needle or cannula to inject the lip filler beneath the skin. You may feel a slight pinch or stinging sensation, but the procedure is generally tolerable. The procedure typically takes between 15 to 30 minutes, after which you should be able to carry on with your day as normal.

While you may see some immediate results after your lip injection, the full effects of the treatment will typically take a few days to fully develop as any initial swelling subsides. It’s important to keep in mind that lip fillers are a temporary solution, and the product will naturally break down in the body over time. The longevity of your lip augmentation results will depend on factors such as your own metabolic rate and the specific filler used. Typically, lip fillers last between 6 to 12 months. To help maintain your desired results, schedule regular follow-up appointments, many patients find that they can go longer between appointments over time.
AFTERCARE
1. Immediate Post-Treatment Care:
Rest: After the procedure, take it easy for the rest of the day. Avoid strenuous activities and excessive talking or laughing.
Hydration: Drink plenty of water to stay well-hydrated, as this can help with the healing process.
Pain Management: You may experience mild discomfort, swelling, or bruising around the lip area. Over-the-counter pain relievers like acetaminophen (Tylenol) can be taken if necessary, as recommended by your provider. Avoid non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs like ibuprofen, as they can increase the risk of bleeding and bruising.
2. Lip Care:
Cold Compress: Applying a cold compress or ice pack wrapped in a clean cloth to the treated area for 10-15 minutes at a time can help reduce swelling and minimize bruising during the first 48 hours.
Avoid Touching or Pressing: Refrain from touching, pressing, or massaging your lips for at least the first 24 hours post-treatment to prevent displacement of the filler.
3. Skincare and Makeup:
Gentle Cleansing: Use a mild, non-abrasive cleanser to clean your face for the first few days post-treatment. Avoid harsh exfoliants, scrubs, or vigorous rubbing of the lips.
Makeup: You can apply makeup to the treated area after 24 hours, but make sure to use clean brushes and avoid applying excessive pressure.
4. Sun Protection:
Sunscreen: Protect your lips from the sun by using a lip balm with SPF. Avoid direct sun exposure, as UV rays can affect the longevity of the filler.
5. Diet and Supplements:
Balanced Diet: Maintain a healthy diet rich in vitamins and minerals that promote healing, such as vitamin C and protein.
Supplements: Discuss with your healthcare provider if any specific supplements are recommended to aid in the healing process.
6. Follow-Up Appointments:
Attend all scheduled follow-up appointments with your healthcare provider to monitor your progress and ensure the treatment is on track.
7. Patience:
Understand that the initial swelling and bruising are temporary. The final results may take up to two weeks to fully settle as the filler integrates with your tissues.
8. Be Cautious with Dental Procedures:
If you have a dental appointment scheduled, inform your dentist about your recent lip filler treatment. Some dental procedures, such as dental cleanings or certain dental work, may pose a risk of dislodging the filler.
Always follow the specific aftercare instructions provided by your healthcare provider, as they may tailor recommendations to your individual needs and the specifics of your dermal lip filler treatment. If you experience unusual or severe symptoms post-treatment, contact your provider promptly. Additionally, if you have any concerns or questions during the healing process, don’t hesitate to reach out to your healthcare provider for guidance and support.
DERMAL FILLER DISSOLVING
If, after undergoing treatment with dermal fillers, you would like to reverse the results, dermal fillers can be dissolved by our physician administering an enzyme called hyaluronidase into the area. One of the significant benefits of cosmetic injectables is that they are not permanent, although results can be long-lasting, injectables are able to be dissolved with an enzyme or naturally metabolised.
HOW THEY WORK
When injected into precise areas, the hyaluronidase enzyme breaks down the hyaluronic acid present in fillers, allowing for the reversal of the treatment. The treatment is effective and tolerable, only breaking down the filler in the specifically targeted areas.
RESULTS
To ensure your comfort during the treatment, topical anaesthetic will be applied to the treatment area. Additionally, the hyaluronidase will also be mixed with a local anaesthetic. Your physician will then inject a precise amount of the enzyme into the specific areas where the unwanted filler is present. Our physician can with the help of an ultrasound remove the unwanted filler with exact precision from the unwanted area. This procedure usually takes around 45 minutes. Following, you will be monitored for about 15 minutes and given an ice pack to help with any discomfort and reduce the risk of bruising.
You can typically notice the results of the treatment almost instantly, but the area will continue to improve over the next couple of weeks as it heals. To achieve optimal results, you may need more than one session. Our skilled physicians will work with you to create a customised treatment plan, tailored for you.
FUTURE DERMAL FILLER TREATMENTS
If you like to receive more filler in the treated area, you should discuss this with your physician during your consultation so that it can be taken into consideration when tailoring your treatment plan. You will be able to undergo another treatment using dermal filler about two weeks after your dissolving procedure.

THREADS
A thread lift involves the insertion of dissolvable threads into specific target locations in the face or body. The threads are then repositioned lifting the skin for a more youthful appearance.
APTOS thread lifts are an advanced minimally invasive thread lift technique, often used as a non-surgical alternative to a face lift. This doctor only procedure, helps to provide a lift and restore the volume, quality, and texture of the skin.
APTOS threads are made from absorbable suture material (poly L Lactic acid and caprolactone), threads have traditionally been used in surgery as suture material for many years and have a high safety profile. Once inserted APTOS threads, will slowly dissolve typically over a 9 to 12 month period and as a response stimulate the body’s own collagen to form, producing a band like structure around the thread which generally produces long-lasting results, lasting up to 2 to 3 years even after the original thread has dissolved.
The ideal candidate for thread lifting is individuals aged around 35 to 65 years old with mild to moderate skin laxity. Thread lifting is performed under local anaesthetic and takes about 60-90 minutes to complete. Thread lifting procedure will incur some down time, as you will commonly expect swelling and bruising after the procedure.
The cost of Thread lifting will depend on the areas of concern, degree of laxity and number of threads used. Your physician will be able to guide you through the process and discuss expectation and outcomes of your procedure.

If you experience unusual or severe symptoms post-treatment, contact your provider promptly. Additionally, if you have any concerns or questions during the healing process, don’t hesitate to reach out to your healthcare provider for guidance and support.
PLATELET RICH PLASMA (PRP)
As we age, our production of collagen and elastin slows down. This leads to developing signs of ageing such as fine lines, wrinkles, skin laxity and dullness. PRP can also help brighten the complexion and to remodel scars and stretch marks.
PRP is a naturally based, non-surgical approach which aims to address these concerns and rejuvenate the skin.
PRP is an injectable treatment that uses your body’s own growth factors to rejuvenate the appearance of the skin. PRP is extracted from your own blood and injected into specific areas of the face or body with the aim of stimulating collagen and elastin production and cell renewal.
Our experienced physician will perform a full assessment of your skin and prescribe a personalised treatment plan to achieve optimal results.
THE PROCEDURE
An anaesthetic cream will be applied to your treatment area prior to the procedure to ensure your comfort. Thereafter, your blood will be carefully drawn, enough to have ample PRP for the treatment. The blood is then spun down to separate the PRP from the red blood cells. The PRP is then extracted and prepared to be injected into the top layer of your skin with small needles. The injecting takes approximately 20-30 minutes, depending on the size of the treatment area. You can expect to be slightly red, swollen, bumpy and bruised in the treatment area. These side effects are temporary and will subside within a week. The results will continue to improve over the next couple months as new collagen and elastin is produced. Our experienced physicians recommend a minimum of three treatments every 3 to 4 weeks, followed by maintenance treatments every 6 to 12 months.
PRP TREATMENT AREAS
Areas of the body that are typically recommended for PRP include the face, particularly around the eyes, decoltage, neck, jaw, hands, and to stimulate hairgrowth. Clients are advised that whilst PRP improves both the texture and tone of the skin, the effects of the therapy are progressive and may require ongoing treatment.
